The second season of ‘The Shannara Chronicles‘ won’t be continuing on MTV but has been moved to Spike TV this Fall. It is joining an increasing amount of scripted television in the likes of ‘The Mist‘ as Spike TV is slowly evolving its format from just reality shows. The series is based on the Terry Brooks novels with the first season having debuted on MTV last year to mixed reviews.
We know that the second season is set to be ten one-hour episodes though the exact premiere date is unknown at this time. For those who missed the first season on MTV or want to support it again by watching it on its new channel, Spike TV “will encore season one beginning on Thursday, June 29 at 11:00 pm ET/PT” right after the premiere of ‘The Mist.’
When the show returns we’ve learned that:
Season two takes place one year after the events of last season. The Four Lands are in chaos. The re-emergence of magic has the populace terrified, and an organization called The Crimson is hunting down magic users, using fear and intimidation to sow discord among the races. Wil, scarred by the loss of Amberle and his separation from Eretria, has turned his back on his magical destiny to become a healer. But when a mysterious woman named Mareth saves Wil from a Crimson attack, he is forced to rejoin the fight.
It sounds like we’re jumping right back into the thick of it and won’t have any downtime. It is unclear how faithful to the source material the second season will be as quite a few liberties were taken in the first season. Thankfully, for fans, the spirit of the books was mainly kept intact.
